TRAVEL INFORMATION

Salzburg is centrally located in mainland Europe and can be reached easily by air, train or road.

By air:

Arriving to Salzburg Airport:

Salzburg Airport is the second largest airport in Austria and is located on the outskirts of the city - only four kilometres from the city centre. There are direct flights from many European cities, including Berlin, Düsseldorf, Hannover, Hamburg, Cologne/Bonn, Frankfurt, Leipzig-Halle, Amsterdam, Vienna, Paris, London, Manchester, Stockholm, and Zurich. Travellers from outside Europe will find transfers through Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Vienna, Istanbul and other European hubs. Official website: https://www.salzburg-airport.com/en/

Reaching Salzburg city centre from Salzburg Airport:

The historic city centre and the main train station can be reached in only 15 minutes from Salzburg Airport by taxi or public transportation.

A taxi journey should cost approximately € 15.

Alternatively the city bus, number 2, leaves every 10-20 minutes, journey time 20 minutes; ticket price should cost approximately € 2,30

Arriving to Munich Airport:

Munich Airport is a stone's throw from Salzburg. Participants can get to Salzburg by car (90 minutes' drive) or by train. The distance between Munich Airport and Salzburg is about 200 km.

Reaching Salzburg city centre from Munich Airport:

There are regular train services from Munich airport. Take the S-Bahn S8 to Munich Ostbahnhof (33 min) and a train to Salzburg Hauptbahnhof (1.5 hours). It is also an option to travel via Munich Hauptbahnhof using the S-Bahn S1 but this is a little slower. Total cost approximately € 41.00.

Alternatively, Flixbus is a fast and cheap way to get from Munich Airport to Salzburg Railway Station. The service is available 4 times a day for €15 only and includes free Wi-Fi! https://global.flixbus.com/

Arriving to Vienna Airport:

The distance between Vienna Airport and Salzburg is about 300 km. Participants can ride the train from Vienna International Airport to Salzburg within 3 hours.

Reaching Salzburg city centre from Vienna Airport:

Take the bus 1187 to Vienna Westbahnhof (45 min) and then the train to Salzburg Hauptbahnhof (2.5-3 hours); total cost approximately €50.00.

By train:

The Salzburg Congress Center is a 10 minute walk from the main railway station. As the most important rail hub in Western Austria, the main railway station is offering numerous domestic as well as international connections such as Eurocity, ICE and Intercity from across Europe.

By road:

The city is easily accessible by car, and is connected by motorway with Vienna and Munich. Bus stations are located at Salzburg Main Railway Station.
